One of Taunton's Finest Covers Bands
Music for Everyone!

About Us

We are a band originating from the Blackdown Hills, near Taunton, bringing a wealth of experience and a ton of energy. We cover dance driven rock, pop, indie and blues dance numbers from the 60's right up to present day hits, although we also play some more mellow songs - ideal entertainment for festivals, pubs, clubs, parties, wedding celebrations and corporate functions.
Songs covered range from The Rolling Stones and T Rex to Lenny Kravitz and Thin Lizzy, The Black Keys and Dire Straits to ZZ Top and David Bowie, The Kaiser Chiefs and Feeder to Tom Petty and ELO. Have a look at our song list to get a better feel for the variety of songs that we play.
John is on lead guitar and lead vocals, Paul is on Rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Andy is our drummer and Graham (Gray) plays the bass.
We do this because we love performing live and connecting with our audience to enjoy the music together.
John also performs solo, singing and playing his guitar to his own backing tracks.
We have our own PA, stage lights and carry Public Liability Insurance.
Our mantra is 'We'll get you dancing' - We look forward to performing for you in the future.
Rock, pop and blues covers for listening and dancing. Experienced musicians.

Bar None - Biographies

John Lockyer Lead Guitar and Vocals

John began playing the guitar back in the days when the world was still in black and white! He has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe in bands, duos and as a solo
performer both professionally and semi professionally for over 40 years, including a 7 year period of living and working in the Costa Blanca region of Spain. During his stay in Spain, John also recorded with renowned keyboard player Jezz Woodroffe, ex Robert Plant band and co-writer of Plant's hit single 'Big Log'.

John has worked with many famous artists during his career including The Drifters, Mike Reid and even the late, great Bert Weedon! He also recorded a single featuring Boy George and Culture Club's brass section.

John writes and records his own music and recently released a CD of his own songs
called 'Out of the dark' which was featured on BBC Radio Somerset.

John loves nothing better than playing to an audience with a great live band!

Paul Hardacre Guitar and Vocals

Paul’s early musical influences were Punk and New Wave and at 16, he decided to pick up a guitar and have a go. He played bass with school friends in his first band.

Originally from Cardiff, Paul spent the last 28 years in Devon before moving to Taunton in 2014.  He met Graham and joined his band ‘The Dukes of Haggerd which evolved into ‘Bar None’ and today’s line-up.

Graham 'Gray' Tottle Bass and Vocals

Born and bred in Somerset, 'Gray' has been playing bass for over twenty years after coming to the conclusion that six strings were just too many to deal with.

Gray has played in a number of covers bands over the years and with Paul, has been with ‘Bar None’ from it's inception a number or years ago with various line-ups.  Gray’s strong inherent sense of timing locks into Andy's drum rhythm to form the foundation of ‘Bar None’s unique sound.

Andy Thompson Drums and Percussion

Andy Thompson has been playing drums for 35 years now, in local bands and spent three years supporting singer song writers in London at show case gigs in the West End. Andy has also played with function band Bedrock in the south west, who at their peak were playing 70 gigs per year!

2016 until COVID and a re location, he played with covers band Off the Cuff in Salisbury, again a very busy band with a great reputation.

Andy's favourite influences are Mitch Mitchell, Chad Smith, Steve Gadd and Charlie Watts. Andy always believes in playing for the song and the vocalist.

If he had to describe his style it would be driven and not always orthodox!!!!!!!!

'Bar None Live at The Ostler Inn', Saturday 25th March 2023. A few snippets of our gig very kindly sent to us by Jim from his mobile phone. Great venue and a great audience!

We played at Bar 27 in Bridgwater on Saturday 20th January. Here's a few numbers from the night. Brilliant venue and a great crowd so we're really looking forward to playing there again soon.

Testimonials
"Hugely enjoyable!"

"Bar None promised to get us dancing - and they did. Over half the audience at Clayhidon Parish Hall were on th eir feet and as the music became faster the dancing became more frenetic. The band were terrific and gave us great versions of the Rolling Stones' Route 66 and The Kinks' You Really Got Me. This was a great family event and hugely enjoyable."

'New Year's Bash!'

As landlord of The York Inn I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Bar None for what was an amazing performance. You pleased everyone in the building, which for those that were there would know, was a lot! From 18 year old young farmers to 90 year old toe tappers, you gave them all a smile and a reason to let go and enjoy my venue.

'Amazing Band!

Hi guys, had the pleasure to see you play at my local on New Year's Eve and what a superb perfomance it was too. I don't have a particular artist or genre of music that I follow, however I enjoyed every song you performed and was thoroughly entertained to the point , I'm waiting to hear where you're performing next so I can watch you again.

Kind regards, Ian Govier.

A Super finale to Uffculme Show Bridwell Park, Uffculme on Sunday 4 September 2022

Well done Guys. You gave us an excellent set of rock and pop and finished the Show in fine style. Anyone who left early in rather dubious weather missed a real treat. We will bring you on a little earlier next time!!  Thank you.

'They did it Again!'

 York Inn, Churchinford

on Saturday 1 October 2022

Once again a performance that made a great evening fantastic . Professional from start to finish even after myself (Landlord) made it hard work to setup due to over full restaurant. Taken in their stride with no fuss and still smiling faces. And went above and beyond to keep crowd engaged by skipping their break between sets.

Music was clear and performed by a band who clearly enjoy what they do and the venue benefited because of it. Would recommend to anyone without any fear that Bar None would put on a show.
